Voters and Non-voters

As you learned today in Chapter 6 Section 4, there are many reasons why people decide not to vote or just plain can't vote. Give one very detailed way or a couple of general ways that we as a country could get more people out to vote. Especially considering that some elections see as low as 50% of the electorate voting in elections for the President. This doesn't take in to count that local elections for mayor, city council, school board, etc... sometimes sees as low as 10-20% voter turnout. Think about the ways we could try and get more people involved. What would you do if you were in charge or could wave your "magic voting wand"?

  3. Voting should have some type of reward when they vote. the tax break idea is a great idea, and i think they will bring a lot more people into voting if that actually occurred. people are not motivated to go out and vote, maybe they should not have certain areas where they go and vote, they should just mail their votes in, instead of going somewhere to vote. which that could also have many problems.

  4. Many people, including my father, believe that there is no reason to vote because they feel that their vote isn't important. My father also believes that the presidential candidates make many promises on how they are going to improve our government and make life easier for everyone. Once the chosen candidate is voted into office, they do not follow through with most of their promises. My father doesn't see a point in voting for someone that can't keep a promise to the U.S. citizens. All we need is a candidate that stops making promises, and starts acting on them.
The sad truth about our country is that we(the citizens) want some sort of a reward for everything we do. The only way i can see to get more people excited about voting is to offer them some sort of benefit for voting!

  5. I agree with Kristen on everything she said, but I say the incentive everyone wants is money.. Who doesn't want money. I think they should make it some type of job, like come in and vote and then you get some money right away up front cash or check! People would change there mind about voting and vote to receive money and once they become involved in voting they may decide to be involved in many other government type things. Getting people involved would mostly happen if you gave them money.
