1. To acclimate you with the use of blogging to interact in a collaborative and professional way through writing about topics related to government.
2. To expand on our own thoughts on government related issues discussed in class or experienced, read about, or watched somewhere out of class.
3. To create a location where you can ask questions or share information with each other and myself. Especially for those that are uncomfortable saying something in class or don't think about until later in another class or when they get home.
The difference between Free Speech and Speech that should not be allowed is the idea of whether it will infringe on other peoples' freedoms. A man is allowed to say whatever he wants. If what he says is accepted or dismissed or unapproved by the majority (or minority) it is completely fine. As long as the people that have oppositions to the people aren't hurt or harassed by what is being said, it is not their place to say whether the speaker can or cannot say what they wish.
ReplyDeleteEven in the case of the public library's internet, it is completely fine for the persons to look at anything they want on the internet. It is a public place, a public computer, and an American Right. As long as what the person is looking at isn't causing problems with other people, and they are not exposing young children to things they should not be seeing, it is completely legal.
Why can't people say what they want? Even if some people are offended, it is still our right. The person that is offended still has the same right to say whatever they want. The person is not getting unfair treatment.
Free Speech--- April Possehl
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know the difference between free speech and speech that shouldn't be allowed. If I were to decide what should be called free speech and what should be not allowed to say it would be a tough decision. Free speech should be allowing a person to say anything they want such as things like "That guy is a freak." But if it is saying something like a threat such as; Korie saying she will cut Kristen's finger off with a chainsaw.
Free Speech-Korie Bixler
ReplyDeleteI personally think that you can say whatever you want, when you want as long as it is not putting other people in harm. You can not post threats and it still be considered free speech, thats not right. Saying that you dont like someone is fine and you should not get into trouble for that.
Free Speech - Kristen Cooper
ReplyDeleteWhen you talk about free speech, you must understand that absolute free speech is allowed. You can say whatever you want, when you want; but if the things you say are threatening, provocative, or just inappropriate; they have consequences. It is common sense to tell the difference between speaking your opinion about something, and saying ridiculous things that are not needed in the first place. "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all." Why risk saying, publishing, or doing something that could end up with you getting yourself into a sticky situation. Everyone has the right to speak their mind, just think before you speak.
